What is a SMART goal?

  • A SMART goal clarifies what is expected and the measurements

used to determine if the goal is achieved and completed

  • A SMART goal will help improve your achievement and success





What does SMART mean? It stands for:


  1. Specific: Linked to a class goal, program’s mission, strategic plan etc.

  2. Measureable: The success toward meeting the goal is measurable.

  3. Attainable: Goals are realistic, reasonable, can be achieved in a specific amount of time.

  4. Relevant: Aligned with current tasks and projects and focus in one defined area.

  5. Time Oriented: Goals have a clearly defined time-frame including a target or deadline.
